Anthony Davis Request Trade from the Pelicans.

Report: Anthony Davis to request trade from Pelicans

We may not know where he wants to be — though we’re willing to grasp at straws, no matter how thin — but now we apparently know where Anthony Davis doesn’t want to be:

Which is not necessarily good news for the Celtics. Just a few weeks ago, Woj reported the Pelicans had no intention of dealing Davis at this year’s trade deadline, and that’s the scenation that most benefitted the C’s. Thanks to the “Rose Rule” (more on that here), the only way Boston can trade for the 25-year-old All-Star during the season is if it gives up Kyrie Irving, which seems highly unlikely. As such, a Celtics run at Davis would have to wait until the offseason.

But does this latest news force the Pelicans’ hand? The Lakers — and LeBron James — are hot for Davis (to the point where the NBA stepped in a month ago and warned them to back off), and they could make a deal by the Feb. 7 deadline. They also fit Davis’ criteria for a new employer:

(Davis himself expounded on this in an interview recently.)

None of this is a true surprise. NBC’s NBA Insider, Tom Haberstroh, recently detailed the ways in which the Pelicans have failed Davis and why he’d want to leave New Orleans. It looks like he’s made his decision.
